Based on what they showcased there doesnt appear to be any kind of feminist empowerment going on, I didnt spot any kind of unnecessary “diversity”, and Neeson seems in full-on badass mode. I think the movie was kinda decent to say the least. the trailer was too attention grabbing and it kinda hooks you in to watch it but then you find out that watching almost two hours of a movie was kinda worthless for no reason. you would think this movie would have high expectations and that it would set the boundary for a guided story that would take the viewers to a different perspective or out take on such a captivating story but the time traveling thing was lies and we all know that it was bullshit bc clearly it was a way to gravatate more ppl in bc of money obviously. i think the movie portrayed slavery very well and it executed the main point which is that black people were treated terribly during the time and it deeply conveys that some people or white racist supremacists just cant seem to let the idea go that they should just accept a black person and understand that equality and change needs to happen when it comes to these sort of things. otherwise, the ending was kinda predictable and everything was kinda predictable in about 55 minutes to an hour in of the movie. i did like the movie, however the last few bits were boring but kinda jaw dropping and crazy to see veronica plan her final escape. its good to know that we can open up and continue to prove that we should be honest about topics like this, but the movie felt very forced and kinda boring at some parts. but to sum it all up, i loved its message and i hope that it can relate to those that do watch it.

Reading other reviews, I'd first like to note that a film having a political leaning should not be a reason for a negative review. Acting/drama itself has many political roots (think Bertolt Brecht, Shakespeare, even ancient Greek plays) and is designed to engage an audience critically. However, the messy plot is a more than valid reason for a negative review, as is the lack of decent characterisation. It is not what I expected, having been described as a horror, and as others have mentioned, Get Out' is a much better movie if that is what you are looking for.
Despite what some may say, I thought the acting was good, and the cinematography was also adept at depicting the American south and brutal conditions of slavery. Janelle Monáe brought her character and the horrors of the life of an enslaved individual to the screen, but I felt the script let her down and did not build the required sympathy between her and the audience.
All in all, this is worth a watch, but not a memorable or ground-breaking production.
